CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : CALIFORNIA : Two Quakes Strike, but No Harm Done

Moderate earthquakes struck the Hollister area of Central California and the Coachella Valley in Southern California, but no damage or injuries were reported. The Hollister quake measured magnitude 4.1 and was centered in an area 13 miles south-southeast of town, the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park said. The Coachella Valley temblor was magnitude 4.2 and was centered nine miles east-northeast of the city of Indio, said a spokesman for the Caltech Seismology Center in Pasadena.
