L.A. Weighs Fire Pact With Ventura County
Los Angeles city and Ventura County fire officials are considering a pact that would allow the closest available firefighters to respond to accidents along the Simi Valley Freeway near Rocky Peak.
The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday unanimously gave the Fire Department authority to negotiate the agreement, which would involve exchanges of personnel, not money.
Battalion Chief Lon Purcell said it “makes good sense” to join forces with the Ventura County Fire Department because it would make for quicker responses to freeway emergencies and provide better protection along the six-mile city and county border.
The mutual aid agreement is to cover fire protection and emergency medical and hazardous materials services, according to a city report.
