Anchorman Chris Berman, who developed a cult-like following among baseball fans through his use of contrived nicknames for players, has signed a long-term contract to remain with the ESPN sports cable network.

The announcement was made today by Steven M. Bornstein, executive vice president for programming and production for ESPN; no contract details were released.

Berman, a 10-year veteran with ESPN, is known for the use of such monikers as Bert “Be Home” Blyleven and Jim “Two Silhouettes On” Deshaies.

In addition to his SportsCenter anchor duties, Berman will do play-by-play on one telecast a week when ESPN begins coverage next season of major league baseball games.
