Share

College of the Canyons lived and died by its running game Thursday in a 92-89 loss to Utah Valley in the second round of the Canyons tournament.

The running game helped Canyons take an eight-point lead in the first half, but it deserted the Cougars midway through the second half before they staged a furious rally in the last five minutes.

Canyons had an opportunity to tie the score with four seconds left, but Nate Conner’s jump shot rolled off the right side of the rim as time expired.

Utah Valley (10-5) built its advantage to 74-60 with six minutes to play, but Canyons (7-9) resurrected its running game to close within four, 89-85, with 26 seconds left on a three-point basket by Tom Kelly.
