Iowa State Hands USD Second Loss

The University of San Diego women’s basketball team was beaten for only the second time this season Tuesday night, falling to Iowa State, 67-64, at USD.
Iowa State forward Shelly Coyle led all scorers with 18 points. USD players in double figures were Lynda Jones with 16 and Paula Mascari with 15.
Iowa State improved to 9-3, while USD fell to 9-2.

The U.S. National team will begin training for its first appearance in the World Cup, to be held this summer in Italy, at the La Jolla Youth Soccer Field beginning Friday. The camp will run through Jan. 18.
Rob Paterson, who attended Mira Mesa High and who last year led the nation in scoring at Evansville, has been invited to try out for the team by Coach Bob Gansler, as has San Diego State’s Eric Wynalda. Former Socker Hugo Perez, considered the top offensive threat on the team, will not be on hand due to commitments with his European club.
