A fire that swept through a Burbank apartment complex Wednesday night left a 1-year-old girl in extremely critical condition with burns and smoke inhalation, officials said.

The girl’s heart had stopped beating and doctors at St. Joseph Medical Center were trying to revive her after she was injured in the fire that broke out about 9:05 p.m. in the 400 block of West Alameda Avenue, hospital and Burbank Fire Department officials said.

The girl’s mother was being examined for minor injuries, said Betty Neilson, hospital nursing supervisor.
