COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Dever Gets 19 as Golden West Tops OCC, 74-65

Tom Dever scored a game-high 19 points and Alex Kreps had 16 to lead Golden West College to a 74-65 victory over visiting Orange Coast Wednesday in an Orange Empire Conference basketball opener.

OCC led, 33-32, at the half, but Golden West went on a 10-0 run to start the second half. Alan Schlines scored 18 points for Orange Coast (11-5 overall, 0-1 in conference play). Golden West is 14-6, 1-0.

Cypress 101, Saddleback 69--Vince Hizon had 18 points and Grayle Humphrey, Andre Lamoureux and Eric Pauley 16 each for Cypress (15-3, 1-0). Charles Lockard scored 19 for Saddleback (7-10, 0-1).

Rancho Santiago 90, Riverside 87 (OT)--Riverside led by four points with 40 seconds left in regulation. Mike Hunter made two free throws to tie it, 77-77, with six seconds left in regulation. Matt Lien had 26 to lead Rancho Santiago (18-1, 0-1). Riverside is 11-9. 0-1.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s basketball:

Golden West 79, Orange Coast 58--Claudette Jackson had 21 points, Donna Gondringer had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Stacee Johnson 14 points and 10 rebounds for Golden West (20-1, 1-0) at Orange Coast (16-4, 0-1). Erika Manning had 16 points and Michelle Hennessey 12 points and eight assists for Orange Coast.

Saddleback 80, Cypress 18--Shannon Garnos scored 20 points and added seven steals to lead host Saddleback (10-8, 1-0), which recorded its first conference victory in three years. Susan Hatchett scored 14 and Maria Guerrero and Carol Salvatierra 10 each for Saddleback. Cypress is 0-15, 0-1.

Riverside 72, Rancho Santiago 52--Barbara Olson scored 18 points for host Rancho Santiago (3-10, 0-1). Riverside is 13-6, 1-0.
