BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : McGlothlin Spurs Notre Dame

With three players scoring in double figures, Notre Dame High won a San Fernando Valley League opener from Chaminade, 51-38, Thursday night at Notre Dame.

Notre Dame was paced by guard Shanon McGlothlin’s 13 points and eight rebounds. Guard Kim Fischer added 12 points and center Megan O’Shaughnessy scored 10.

Chaminade, which was led by Maria Costa’s game-high 15 points, scored 18 points to Notre Dame’s 11 in the second quarter to bounce back from an 11-point first-quarter deficit.

But in the second half, Notre Dame held Chaminade to under 10 points in each of the final two quarters to seal the win.

In other girls’ basketball games:

Alemany 52, St. Genevieve 32--No Alemany players scored in double figures, but four scored eight points each to lead the Indians (9-6) in the San Fernando Valley League opener at Alemany.

Tori McCormick, Qina Shigamatsu, Michelle Paul and Lara Bridi tied for team-high scoring honors. Bridi scored six in the first quarter as Alemany jumped to a 17-8 lead.

Bell-Jeff 44, Louisville 28--Senior guards Judy Daza (14 points, five assists) and Julie Cusumano (13 points, 12 rebounds) teamed to lead the Guards (9-6, 1-0) in the San Fernando Valley League opener. Louisville is 4-4, 0-1 in the league.

Oak Park 47, Fillmore 45--Kelli Romney scored 12 points, grabbed 20 rebounds and had five steals and teammate Marcy Reed scored a game-high 16 points to lead Oak Park (1-7, 1-1 in league play) to a Tri-Valley League win at home.

Highland Hall 39, Claremont 12--Freshman guard Kristen Johansen scored a career-high 23 points to lead Highland Hall (4-4) to a nonleague win at home.

Laura Kenney and Jenni Sturla both had 13 rebounds.

Village Christian 43, Western Christian 29--LeeAnn Robinson scored a team-high 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Jana Kovar scored 10 points, collared 14 rebounds and had six steals to lead host Village Christian (6-4, 2-0 in league play) to an Alpha League win.

Amy Osborne led Western Christian (0-1 in league play) with 13 points and eight rebounds.

BOYS

Campbell Hall 86, Yeshiva 83 (2 OT)--Lee Sprague and Cole Leatherman each made baskets in the second overtime to propel host Campbell Hall to a nonleague win.

Sprague scored a game-high 28 points.

Campbell Hall (7-4) also received 14 points and nine rebounds from Flip Sides and 11 points and 10 rebounds from Richard Strayer.

Yeshiva fell to 6-1.

Newbridge 64, Einstein Academy 46--Ari Vinocor scored 19 points, including four three-point baskets for Einstein Academy in a nonleague game at home.

Glendale Academy 95, Marshall (JV) 45--Senior forward Chris Lindstadt scored a game-high 26 points and had 15 rebounds in a nonleague game for host Glendale Academy (4-3).

WOMEN

Occidental 58, Christ College 55--Jenny Korinko and Kelly Stephensen each scored a game-high 17 points to lead host Occidental (4-7) to a nonconference win.

Genevieve Graff led Christ College (2-7) with 12 points.
