McGowan Takes Three-Shot Lead in Tucson
Pat McGowan led an assault on a municipal course with a 10-under-par 62 Thursday for a three-shot first-round lead at the Tucson Open.
McGowan, a non-winner in 13 seasons on the PGA Tour, had eight birdies and an eagle on the Randolph Park course, which was no match for golf’s touring pros.
Five players had 65s on the flat, 6,902-yard layout--one of two courses being used for this event.
Jay Haas and Kirk Triplett, with 66s, led the half of the field that opened the tournament at the more difficult TPC at Star Pass.
