Big Ten Commissioner James Delany publicly reprimanded former Michigan football Coach Bo Schembechler Friday for criticizing the officiating in Michigan’s 17-10 Rose Bowl loss to USC.
Schembechler had announced his retirement as coach before the game and earlier this week became president and chief operating officer of the Detroit Tigers.
The statement said that Schembechler was “unduly critical of a game official.”
Bruce Madej, a spokesman for the University of Michigan, said he hadn’t seen Schembechler recently. Told of the reprimand and asked for reaction, Madej said, “We won’t let him coach the next game, OK?”
