PREP ROUNDUP : Brea-Olinda’s Girls Extend Streak

Brea-Olinda High School, the top-ranked girls’ basketball team in the state, won its 39th consecutive game Saturday with a 58-48 victory over 10th-ranked John Muir of Pasadena.

Aimee McDaniel scored 14 points for host Brea (17-0). Teammate Tammy Blackburn added 12.

Rose Jong of Muir (15-4) had a game-high 19 points, including four three-pointers.

In another nonleague game:

El Toro 81, Katella 42--Senior center Sara Bone had 34 points for host El Toro (14-4), which won its eighth consecutive game. Karie Yoshioka had 13 points and Tracy Heiser and Danielle Silva 10 each for El Toro. Margaret Harker had 14 points for Katella.

In Sunset League girls’ basketball:

Ocean View 58, Huntington Beach 39--Jenny Sullivan had 26 points and Tracey Wolfe 10 to lead visiting Ocean View (18-1 overall, 3-0 in league play). Freshman Clare Walker had 17 points for Huntington Beach (7-9, 1-2).

Fountain Valley 57, Westminster 38--Jennifer Barbaro had 13 points to lead Fountain Valley (11-7, 1-2). Westminster’s Kim Sentmen had 23 points.

In nonleague boys’ soccer:

Kennedy 5, Magnolia 2--James Trimmer scored twice to lead host Kennedy (5-3-2). Trimmer scored his goals in the first half to give the Fighting Irish a 2-0 halftime lead. Robert Weber, Rey Iriarte and Kim Kyong added goals in the second half for Kennedy.

In a Sunset League girls’ soccer match:

Edison 3, Marina 1--Allyson Gibbs had a pair of first-half goals and Briana Winter scored in the second for the host Chargers (8-3-4, 3-0). Wendy Gratteau scored for Marina (7-5-1, 2-1). Goalkeeper Nikki Turner had seven saves for Edison, and Kristin Rossman had nine for Marina.
