THE SIDELINES : Super Rates for Super Bowl
City officials, stymied over a shortage of hotel-motel rooms for the Super Bowl football game Jan. 28, want to make sure no similar problem arises the next time.
The shortage for the Denver-San Francisco game has driven up prices in the business and French Quarter areas. Rooms that might normally rent for $100 a night are going for three to five times that rate.
As a result, hotels and motels have been asked not to lease blocks of rooms to tour agencies in 1994--the next time officials hope the Super Bowl will be played in the Louisiana Superdome--Mayor Sidney Barthelemy said Tuesday.
