Beverly Hills 64, Palos Verdes 55--The Normans scored the first 11 points and led from start to finish in a Bay League contest at Palos Verdes. Beverly Hills was ahead, 11-5, in the first quarter as Palos Verdes connected on only two of 12 shots. The Sea Kings rallied to within one point, 16-15, with 3:02 remaining in the first half.

But junior guard Jonah Naulls, who scored a game-high 21 points, scored five points, including a three-point basket with two minutes remaining, and Beverly Hills led, 23-17.

Beverly Hills spurted to a 10-point lead, 31-21, midway through the third quarter. Then the Sea Kings rallied again to close to within two, 32-30, on a basket by Rich Radford at the 2:08 mark. The Normans pulled away by as many as 16 late in the fourth quarter. Beverly Hills kept the Sea Kings at bay by hitting nine of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Guard Andy Jacobson led Palos Verdes with 13 points. Center Peter Micceli chipped in with 16 for Beverly Hills. Sea Kings center Art Shell, hampered by early foul trouble, scored only two points before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with a knee injury. Beverly Hills improved to 5-1 in Bay League play, while Palos Verdes dropped to 3-3 and 9-8 overall.

Bishop Montgomery 98, St. Paul 78--Senior guard Darrell Daniel led three teammates in double figures with 28 points as the Knights tuned up for their first-place showdown against Mater Dei with an Angelus League victory at home.

Bishop Montgomery (3-0 in league play, 12-3 overall) will play host to league favorite Mater Dei at 7:30 Saturday night.

“They’re awfully good, but it’s a good game for our program,” Bishop Montgomery Coach Doug Mitchell said. “Our kids believe we can beat them. That’s the main thing.”

Forward Pete Tolliver and reserve guard Gary Randazzo each scored 15 points for the Knights, who have won five straight games, and guard Kirk Jones added 11 and did a good job of ball handling and breaking St. Paul’s press.

“We executed well offensively,” Mitchell said. “We got good shots just about every time down.”

Culver City 72, Mira Costa 49--The Centaurs dominated the game at Mira Costa to create a three-way tie for second place in the Ocean League. Culver City, Mira Costa and Centennial are each 4-2, two games behind Morningside.
