Rolling Hills High School guard Steve Clover scored 40 points and set a CIF Southern Section record with 11 three-point shots Wednesday night in the Titans’ 95-80 Bay League basketball victory over host Torrance.
Clover’s 11 three-pointers broke the previous single-game record of 10 shared by Randy Betten of New Life Christian and Carlos Lopez of Rosemead.
“We didn’t do a very good job on him,” said Torrance Coach Bob Little. “It was his game. He came out and burned us.”
The 6-foot-4 Clover also holds the Southern Section record for career three-pointers with 249 and is closing in on Tracy Murray’s single-season record of 125. He has 101.
Junior center Roger Hendrix added 33 points for Rolling Hills, which won its second straight league game after losing its first four. The Titans are 10-8 overall.
Torrance (1-5, 6-9) was led by junior center Joe Zaletel with 31 points.
