HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Moorpark Dominates in Wrestling

Moorpark High won the team championship of the Harvard wrestling tournament Saturday on the strength of four individual titles. The Musketeers finished with 218 points--and a commanding lead over second-place Duarte (179).

Vince Alvarez (119 pounds), Paul Gutierrez (126), Mike Jennings (138) and George Mahoney (175) each won individual championships for Moorpark.

Chris Camarena of Canoga Park won the 132-pound title. Harvard’s Robert Pearlstein won the 145-pound championship.

Canoga Park finished third in the 11-team event with 154 points; Calabasas scored 27 for 10th place; Chaminade finished 11th with 13.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Westlake 3, Thousand Oaks 1--Tony Terani scored two goals to lead Westlake (14-5-1, 3-2) in a Marmonte League match at Thousand Oaks (0-5-1). Westlake’s David Sassano added a goal and an assist.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Montclair Prep 79, Marshall Fundamental 78--After his team surrendered a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter, J. T. Billingslea buried a 15-foot jump shot with four seconds to play to preserve the Mounties’ unblemished Alpha League record.

Montclair Prep (13-3, 6-0) led, 71-51, after three quarters, but the Eagles erupted for 27 points, including a 16-0 run. Shane Jamison scored eight of his team-high 22 points in the final quarter for Marshall Fundamental (5-9, 2-4).

The Mounties, who committed 26 turnovers, outscored the Eagles, 31-19, in the third quarter.

Billingslea paced Montclair Prep with 26 points. Jason Gerber contributed 13 points and 18 rebounds, and Robert Thomas had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Crossroads 67, Faith Baptist 59--Crossroads grabbed a permanent lead midway through the third quarter of the Delphic League game. Faith Baptist shot only 30% from the field.

Brandon Wilkerson scored 19 points for Crossroads (5-8, 4-0). Senior center Dionicio Blanco had 20 points and 16 rebounds.
