Everybody wanted to get into the act in Hart High’s 103-69 ho-hum hammering of Foothill League rival San Gabriel on Tuesday night at San Gabriel.

And nearly everyone did. Six players scored in double figures, including reserves Tony Valenzuela (11 points) and Chad Hourigan (12). Nine of Hart’s 10 players broke into the scoring column and Mali Moye, who was scoreless, missed a breakaway dunk late in the game that would have accounted for a dramatic 100th point.

As it was, hot-shooting Hart (14-6, 3-2 in league play) made 36 of 67 shots from the field, including 11 three-point baskets to tie a school record.

“The style that we play lends itself to scoring a lot of points,” Hart Coach Greg Herrick said. “We try and run at our opponents, that’s no secret.

“Eleven three-pointers? Was that all?”

Wasn’t that enough? Especially when they were coming from the likes of Valenzuela and fellow reserve guard Doug Rich, who added eight points.

Both players connected on consecutive long-distance swishes midway through the fourth quarter while the starting back court of Micah Ohlman (16 points) and Andrew Lorraine (six) were on the bench.

Rich followed with a long-distance two-pointer for which he originally was awarded three points before it was ruled that his toes were on the perimeter line. A minute later, Rich backed up and busted his second three-point basket of the fourth quarter to increase Hart’s lead to 96-55.

“We play the whole group and the whole group has the same situation,” Herrick said. “If a kid has a three-pointer, he’s supposed to shoot it.”

Ohlman buried the first of his team-high five three-point baskets 11 seconds after the opening tipoff and Hart was on its way. The Indians made 12 of 16 shots in the first quarter while building a 27-10 advantage.

San Gabriel (1-4, 9-11) showed its only sign of life with a 12-5 run in the second quarter. But two free throws from forward Keith Halcovich, who finished with 13 points, and a free throw and three-point bank shot by Ohlman helped Hart build toward a 45-27 halftime lead.
