HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Oceanside Has Last Word in Victory

Oceanside came from behind by scoring 10 of the game’s last 11 points and defeated cross-town rival El Camino for the second time this season, 31-30, Thursday at Oceanside.

Oceanside Coach Jim Stant credited his defense, which limited El Camino to just three fouls shots in the final quarter.

Oceanside freshman Nykia Burnside scored all seven of her points in the final quarter, including the winning basket. Mildred Conston led Oceanside with 14 points and also had two steals, six blocks and 10 rebounds. Angela Sims had three steals and 10 rebounds.

Metro Conference

Montgomery 55, Sweetwater 22--Montgomery had three players score in double figures: Tish Scarborough with 13, Monica Vargas with 12 and Brooke Scarborough with 10.

Palomar League

Poway 68, Torrey Pines 57--Poway (15-2, 7-1) got back on track after suffering its first league loss Tuesday. Christie Fortney led the way with 21 points. Julie Schwan added 12 and Laura Nugent 10.

Karyn Armstrong had 14 points, 14 rebounds and seven steals for Torrey Pines (11-8, 4-4).

Fallbrook 60, Orange Glen 43--Fallbrook (6-12, 3-5) controlled from the start. Marsha Jeffries led the Warriors with 11 points, and Becky Rayburn added 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Kathleen Fortney of Orange Glen (5-11, 1-7) led all scorers with 17 points.

Rancho Buena Vista 68, Vista 47--Every RBV player scored. Skiy Burton led the way with 15 points, and Shawna Edge added 12. Burton also had 11 rebounds, and Stephanie Howells had six assists for RBV (14-5, 7-1).

For Vista, Cathy Goodrich had 13 points and Marsha Jeffries 11.
