In another City Western League game:

University City 78, La Jolla 38--Jerome Price scored 26 points as No. 6 University City took a 39-18 lead at halftime and coasted at home. Ray Hooper scored 12 points for University City (18-2, 5-0).

Palomar League

Poway 70, Mt. Carmel 68--Poway scored the final 10 points, including a tip-in by Frank Garrett with four seconds remaining, to give the Titans the upset at top-ranked Mt. Carmel.

Poway trailed by as many as 13 early in the fourth quarter but eventually outscored Mt. Carmel (16-4, 9-1), 33-20, in the period.

The victory was especially surprising because Poway had lost two of its last three and dropped out of the top 10.

“We hadn’t played that badly,” said Neville Saner, Poway coach. “It’s a tough league. We’re not a bad ball club. Beating Mt. Carmel might be a real good tonic.”

Bill Rarity hit two three-pointers and converted a steal into another basket during Poway’s 10-0 run. The Titans (14-5, 5-5) got the ball with 58 seconds and held on for the last shot. Garrett missed, Kyle Milling rebounded and missed, and Garrett tapped it in for the game-winner.

Fallbrook 76, Vista 59--Chris Miller scored 22, and Travis Teagle added 14 for Fallbrook (15-7, 6-4) at home.

Torrey Pines 92, Orange Glen 42--Craig Brown scored 18 points for No. 3 Torrey Pines (21-2, 9-1). Carter Brown added 12 points and 10 assists for Torrey Pines. Orange Glen (0-17, 0-10) was led by Darren Wilkinson’s 20 points.

Rancho Buena Vista 66, San Dieguito 59--Rancho Buena Vista trailed by three at the end of the third quarter but outscored San Dieguito, 23-13, in the fourth. Brad Grubaugh scored 24 to lead the Longhorns (10-9, 6-4). San Dieguito (9-11, 4-6) was led by Matt de La Pena with 30 points.

Avocado League

Ramona 61, Escondido 51--Ramona outscored Escondido, 17-6, in the second quarter at home. Todd Johnson scored 18 for Ramona (13-5, 5-4). Robert Chavez led Escondido (5-11, 3-6) with 15 points.

Oceanside 61, Carlsbad 56 (OT)--The teams were tied, 51-51, after regulation. Carl Mathis scored 20 points for Oceanside (5-4, 11-10). Mark Tague led Carlsbad (2-6, 6-11) with 18 points.

City Central League

San Diego 64, Madison 58--Clark James scored 24 points as No. 5 San Diego (14-3, 5-1) held off Madison. John McKenna led Madison (2-20, 0-6) with 19 points.

City Eastern League

Morse 60, Mira Mesa 57--Kal Chatham’s three-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game was disallowed, and Morse held on for the upset at Mira Mesa. David Dunn scored 21 points to lead Morse (13-9, 3-2). J.J. Rowlett scored 20 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and added 10 assists for Mira Mesa (13-8, 3-2).

Patrick Henry 59, Point Loma 43--John Pike scored 16 points for No. 4 Patrick Henry (18-3, 5-0). Point Loma (7-12, 1-4) was led by Paul Roberson with 20 points.

City Harbor League

St. Augustine 87, Christian 79--Matt Kenney scored 27 points and Bryan Cantwell 26 for St. Augustine (3-19, 2-3). Tony Clark scored 55 points for Christian (9-9, 3-2).

Metro Conference

Sweetwater 85, Mar Vista 40--Joe McDowell led all scorers with 21 points. Teammate John Gilbert added 14, including three three-pointers.

Castle Park 79, Bonita Vista 73--Castle Park (9-11, 6-5) was led by James Sandora with 21 points. Rope Perry scored 24 points for Bonita Vista (13-6, 8-3).

Chula Vista 105, Montgomery 72--Chula Vista outscored Montgomery, 43-12, in the third quarter to pull away at home. Carnell Penn had 27 points and 10 assists for Chula Vista (18-5, 9-1).

Coastal League

Bishop’s 53, Mt. Empire 29--Bishop’s (17-4, 8-0) held Mt. Empire to 11 points in the second half to remain undefeated in league play.

Nonleague

Crawford 57, Serra 52--Marc Carter and Barry Randle each had 16 points for Crawford. Joey Wojdowski had 13 for Serra.
