USD Running Back Jackson Carries Off Football Awards

Todd Jackson, the University of San Diego’s all-time leading rusher with 2,176 yards, won three awards at Sunday’s football awards banquet.
Jackson, a senior, was named team captain along with Mike Hintze. He also collected the strength coaches assn. all-American award and offensive player of the year honors.
Other winners were: John Eck for the James B. Orwig Scholar/Athlete award; Dave Bergmann for the NCAA top kicker and best special teams player; Mark Crisci and Dave Dunn for defense; Matt Scholl for the strength coach award; and Dave Dunn for defensive player of the year.
The Toreros finished the season with a 7-2 record and a No. 6 ranking in the Division III West region.
TENNIS
Ditta Huber of La Jolla defeated Christy Propstra of Paradise Valley, Ariz. by default in the finals of the girl’s 16 division of the Whittier Junior tournament. Huber, only 14, is ranked 34th nationally in the 16-year-old division and third in the Southern California Open division.
