VALLEY ROUNDUP : Trio Scores in Double Figures to Pace Valley Win

Three players topped the 20-point plateau to lead Valley College to an 87-77 win over Cuesta in a Western State Conference men’s basketball game at Cuesta on Monday night.

Steve Ward (28 points), Shawn DeLaittre (23) and Andre Harrell (22) led Valley.

The Monarchs (18-9, 9-1 in conference play) remain one game ahead of Ventura and Santa Monica with five games remaining in conference play.

In other Western State Conference men’s games:

Moorpark 88, Santa Monica 72--Freshman point guard Sam Crawford scored a game-high 33 points and added 10 assists to lead Moorpark at home.

Greg Taylor had 13 points and 14 rebounds for Moorpark (19-8, 7-3).

Glendale 69, Santa Barbara 63--Dave Swanson scored 20 points for Glendale (18-10, 8-2) at Santa Barbara.

Gary Fowler added 16 for Glendale.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Valley 67, Cuesta 49--Three players reached double figures for Valley in a Western State Conference game at Cuesta.

Claudia Rocha (14), Christine Rumfola (12) and Sandrine Rocher (11 points) led Valley (23-4, 9-1), which has won eight consecutive games and is ranked No. 4 in the state by the J. C. Athletic Bureau.

Canyons 83, Ventura 80 (OT)--Tressie Millender scored 24 of her 28 points in the second half to lead Canyons (20-5, 8-2) to a Western State Conference victory at Ventura.

Dawn Coleman scored all of her 16 points in the second half for Canyons.

Santa Monica 55, Moorpark 50--Debra Rabin scored 17 points in a losing effort for Moorpark (15-9, 6-3) in a Western State Conference game at home.

Pierce 68, Oxnard 64--Cynthia Llerenas scored 11 points and had seven assists to lead Pierce (10-15, 3-7) in a Western State Conference game at Oxnard.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Chaminade 55, Bell-Jeff 40--Maria Costa scored a game-high 20 points and Pam Powers had 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead Chaminade to a San Fernando Valley League upset at home.

Jane Kim had 12 points and 19 rebounds for Chaminade (7-9, 2-6).

Ingrid Ochoa had 16 points to lead Bell-Jeff.

Notre Dame 45, St. Genevieve 35--Julie Nelson scored a team-high 10 points and had 14 rebounds as Notre Dame clinched second place and a playoff berth with the San Fernando Valley League victory at home.

Alemany 65, Louisville 51--Rachel Corelli scored 29 points to lead Alemany in a San Fernando Valley League game at Louisville.

Sarah Guziel had 10 points for Alemany (17-6, 9-0).

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Chaminade 80, Bell-Jeff 62--Mark Mirkovich scored 24 points and Kent Cote added 19 to lead Chaminade (11-10, 5-4) in a San Fernando Valley League game at Bell-Jeff.

Victor Nunez had 15 points for Bell-Jeff (9-12, 5-4).
