A 29-year-old Rowland Heights man who had been stabbed in the chest lost control of his car and smashed into the side of a La Puente house early Saturday before dying en route to a local hospital, authorities said.

Sheriff’s Deputy Rafael Estrada said the victim, Nathan Wayne Atwood, crashed into a residence at 17341 Azalea Court, just north of the Pomona Freeway, around 12:20 a.m. Paramedics “discovered that he had been stabbed in the upper torso and he died on arrival at Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina,” Estrada said.

Estrada said homicide investigators were looking into the case. He said Atwood was the only person in the 1970 AMC Hornet when it careened off the road and hit the house. No one inside the home was injured, he said.

Estrada said damage to the house was “moderate.”
