COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago Loses First Baseball Game of the Season

Keith Morgan had a solo home run, walked twice, scored three times and had a RBI single to lead College of the Canyons to a 12-3 victory over previously unbeaten Rancho Santiago in the first round of the Casey Stengel baseball tournament Thursday at Rancho Santiago.

Marty Neff had a two-run home run, his sixth of the season, in the eighth inning for Rancho Santiago (7-1).

In nonconference baseball:

Saddleback 10, Palomar 6--Brent Ferguson and Tony Wren each had three hits and two RBIS to lead visiting Saddleback (4-2).

Ted Savage had two hits and a RBI for Saddleback. The score was tied, 6-6, after seven innings, but Saddleback scored two runs in eighth on RBI singles by Craig Gill and Savage and Saddleback scored two in the ninth on RBI singles by Ferguson and Wren.

Pat Norville pitched two innings of relief for his second save. Andy Hallock (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings.

In nonconference softball:

Fullerton 10, L.A. Harbor 0--Val Finley pitched a two-hitter for host Fullerton (4-0). Debbie Dunigan had a hit, a stolen base and scored twice for Fullerton. L.A. Harbor is 0-1.

In nonconference men’s tennis:

Long Beach 7, Cypress 2--Visiting Cypress (2-1) won the No. 1 singles as John Swaino defeated Anthony Cortez 6-3, 6-1, and also won the No. 1 doubles as Swaino and Bob Carlton defeated Cortez and Joe Spano, 6-4, 6-4.
