GIRLS’ ROUNDUP : Estancia’s Earle Scores 42 in Victory at Lompoc

Guard Melody Earle scored 42 points to lead Estancia to a 71-60 victory Wednesday over Lompoc in a 3-AA playoff game at Lompoc.

The victory over the division’s third-seeded team gave Estancia a 14-12 mark for the season. Lompoc finished at 21-4.

Earle had 27 of her points in the first half, including a twisting 3-point basket at the buzzer to give Estancia a 34-31 halftime lead.

The teams were tied at 48 after three periods, but the Eagles outscored Lompoc 23-12 in the final period.

Center Nicki Manzo scored 30 points for Lompoc, but Lompoc had trouble getting the ball to its inside players in the final period, according to Lompoc Coach Sherman Hanson.

“We just didn’t get the ball to our big people. That was our plan, to get our big people involved in the fourth period,” Hanson said.

In the 2-AA:

Santa Margarita 63, Beaumont 48--Guard Kristen Mulligan scored 32 points, 19 of them in the second half, to lead visiting Santa Margarita. Forward Sarah Witte had 22 for Santa Margarita (20-6), which will face Santa Ynez, a 64-33 winner over St. Anthony’s. Beaumont finished at 17-7. Santa Margarita led just 27-24 at halftime, but used a tenacious defense to pull away in the final two periods. The Eagles outscored Beaumont 17-12 in the third period and 19-10 in fourth. Diane Terrill had 12 points for Beaumont.

In the Small Schools:

Ribet Academy 74, Cal Lutheran 58--Kate Stoll scored 29 points to lead the Fighting Frogs. Cal Lutheran finished 14-1. Becky Clark scored 14 points and Kim Floyd scored 13 for Ribet Academy (16-5). Cal Lutheran had an 18-10 advantage after the first quarter, but Ribet Academy outscored Cal Lutheran 25-12 in the second quarter and 24-18 in the third quarter to take control of the game.
