DIGEST : Undefeated Ruelas Brothers Headline Country Club Card

The unbeaten Ruelas brothers of Arleta headline Tuesday night’s boxing card at the Country Club in Reseda.

Gabriel Ruelas, a junior lightweight who has a record of 19-0 and 11 knockouts, is scheduled to fight Dana Roston (15-11-2) of Las Vegas in the 10-round main event. Roston has lost three of his past four fights, including two by knockout.

Rafael Ruelas, a featherweight who has a record of 13-0 and 11 knockouts, is scheduled to fight Roberto Rios (16-8) of Guadalajara, Mexico.

In other bouts, light heavyweight Nate Houser (12-2) of Los Angeles will take on Jerry Okoro (17-9-2) of Los Angeles in a scheduled six-rounder. Another six-round bout matches featherweights Joe Martinez (8-3-1) of Hanford, Calif., against Charles Hawkins (4-2-1) of Los Angeles.

The card starts at 7:30.

Jane Cwayna capped her final season as the Antelope Valley College women’s basketball coach by being honored as the Foothill Conference Coach of the Year.

With two openings in the physical education department, Antelope Valley will hire a women’s basketball coach and a track coach, and Cwayna will coach the women’s volleyball team and the tennis teams next school year.

Cwayna led Antelope Valley to the Foothill co-championship with an 11-1 record, 17-11 overall. She compiled a 103-132 record in nine seasons at Antelope Valley.

Sophomores Susan Hervey (14.1 ppg), Molly Jonnum (14.1) and Denese Prince (9.1, 8.3 rebounds) of Antelope Valley were selected to the all-conference team.
