San Diego State and UC San Diego lead their respective divisions after the first round of the Southern California Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament at Torrey Pines’ South Course Friday.

The round may have belonged to the two local teams, but Cal State Long Beach’s Mike Bielsik had the shot of the day.

Bielsik used a two-iron to ace the 206-yard par-three 11th hole. Bielsik shot a 73 and is tied with Todd Eckenrode of UC Santa Barbara and San Diego State’s Mike Riley, a freshman who played at Madison High School.

The Tritons shot 309 and are 10 shots ahead of Cal State San Bernardino. Bob Knee had a one-over 73 for UCSD.

MEN’S TENNIS

San Diego State’s Tole Marinkovic and Ricardo Herrera defeated Keff Ewing (Irvine) and Scott Brownsberger, 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the third round for the Pacific Coast Men’s doubles championships at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.

Other local matches included USD’s Julio Noriega and David Smith, who defeated Yoram Baron and Mark Schumacher (USIU), 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.

BASEBALL

Rick Navarro suffered only his second loss in three years as San Diego State was defeated, 7-2, by No. 13 Cal State Long Beach in a nonconference game at SDSU. Navarro, who was 14-1 his senior year of high school and 5-0 as a freshman for the Aztecs last season, entered the game with a 5-0 record.

But Cal State Long Beach (13-6) scored three runs in the second and four more in the fifth, two coming on Alan Burke’s home run. The Aztecs (9-5) scored twice in the bottom of the ninth.
