A Mission Viejo man died after a car he was riding in crashed into the rear of a big-rig truck on the Riverside Freeway, authorities said today.
The truck was westbound in the slow lane, just east of Gypsum Canyon Road, at 8:35 p.m. Wednesday when a Honda slammed into the back of it, California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Angel Johnson said.
“The driver of the Honda was inattentive to her driving,” Johnson said.
Mahmud Radwan, a passenger in the Honda, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown partly through the windshield, Johnson said.
Radwan, whose age was not immediately known, died from his injuries at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, she said.
“He would have lived if he had been wearing his seat belt,” Johnson said.
Francis Valenzuela, 32, of Mission Viejo, the driver of the Honda, received moderate injuries and was taken to Kaiser Hospital in Anaheim. The driver of the truck was not hurt.
