HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Lieberthal Stays Hot as Westlake Wins 2

Mike Lieberthal hit his ninth home run, his fifth in two games, as visiting Westlake High swept Santa Paula in a nonleague doubleheader Saturday.
Westlake (15-0), the top-ranked 5-A Division team in the Southern Section, won by scores of 14-3 and 6-1.
Lieberthal, a 6-foot, 165-pound senior catcher who tied a Southern Section record Wednesday with four home runs, hit a solo homer in the fifth inning of the first game and was two for three.
James Jones was three for four with three runs batted in.

HOLT-GOODMAN TOURNAMENT
Poly 10, Kennedy 4--Raul Torres and David Giatti combined on a five-hitter and struck out seven to lead Poly in the second round of the Blue Division.
Gabe Chavez led Poly (13-2) with two hits, three RBIs and one run scored. Poly defeated North Hollywood, 10-1, in a first-round game.
North Hollywood 12, Grant 10--Duane Braxton had three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs for North Hollywood (4-7) in a second-round Blue Division game to make a winner of pitcher Jose Ortiz.
Grant lost to Kennedy in a first-round game, 1-0.
San Fernando 8, Sylmar 0--Fernando Ortega hit two doubles, a triple and a home run and drove in three runs to lead San Fernando (10-3-2) in the second round of the Blue Division.
San Fernando’s John Najar hit his seventh home run to support the pitching of sophomore Rick Savala (2-0).
San Fernando defeated Verdugo Hills, 14-3, in a first-round game, and Sylmar bested San Pedro, 6-2.
Birmingham 5, Granada Hills 4--Regular first baseman Noah Kirshbaum took the mound for Birmingham in a second-round Red Division game and went the distance, scattering four hits and walking just two.
Birmingham defeated Westchester, 16-0, in a first-round game.
Cleveland 6, Taft 5--Mike Petruzates hit a three-run home run and Julio Marcial drove in two runs with a single to lead Cleveland (3-8) in a second-round game of the Red Division.
Bobby McRae was two for three and Benji Belfield hit a solo home run for Taft.
Cleveland lost a first-round game to Franklin, 4-1.
CHINO TOURNAMENT
Royal 6, Banning 3--Richard Naranjo was two for three with a double and RBI for Royal, which won its sixth consecutive game. Brian Kent was two for three for Royal with a double and teammate Robert Campos added two hits, including an RBI double.
DEL REY LEAGUE
Notre Dame 16, Harvard 3--Bruno Paniccia, Kevin Milligan, Vinnie Orlando and Pete Villar each had two hits for host Notre Dame. Junior Eric Vellozzi (2-2) struck out seven and allowed five hits.
Crespi 4, St. Francis 3--Relief pitcher Pat Bennett (4-1) drove in the winning run, while Brodie VanWagenen and Rick Marino each had two hits for Crespi.
