Two Earthquakes Shake Bay Area

Sharp earthquakes struck the San Francisco Bay area Friday night, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injury.
The state Office of Emergency Services reported two quakes, a 4.9-magnitude temblor at 9:41 p.m. and a 4.5 shaker at 9:47 p.m. The epicenter, authorities said, was between Walnut Creek and Danville along the Concord fault, where another earthquake occurred a week earlier.
The temblor was felt in Walnut Creek, San Francisco and Vacaville.
Karen Allen, a dispatcher with the Walnut Creek Police Department, said officers in the station felt what they thought were three distinct quakes that seemed like slowly building rolls.
“We sure did feel it,” said Jane Corsen, a clerk at a 7-Eleven store in Walnut Creek. “A couple of boxes fell off the shelves . . . but (there was) no broken glass.”
