PREP ROUNDUP : Edison Clinches Tie for Title in Boys’ Volleyball

The Edison High School boys’ volleyball team assured itself of at least a tie for the Sunset League title by defeating Marina, 15-12, 15-12, 15-2, at Edison Friday.

Karl Van Reusen had 14 kills and Steve Snyder had 11 kills to lead Edison (13-1 overall, 8-0 in league play).

In Empire League boys’ volleyball:

Santa Ana 3, Los Alamitos 2--Hector Salcedo had 29 kills to lead host Santa Ana (6-6, 2-6) to a 15-13, 15-13, 7-15, 15-17, 15-13 victory.

In Garden Grove League boys’ volleyball:

La Quinta 3, Santiago 0--La Quinta (13-1, 12-0) clinched the league title by taking a 15-2, 15-7, 15-4 victory over host Santiago (6-6 in league). Paul Price had 11 kills and Wes Kollar had five blocks to lead La Quinta.

Garden Grove 3, Rancho Alamitos 1--Rod Nelson had 19 kills and Ruben Lavarrio had 18 blocks to lead host Garden Grove (11-6, 8-4) to a 15-11, 13-15, 15-13, 15-12 victory.

In Sea View League boys’ volleyball:

Newport Harbor 3, Estancia 1--Billy Nguyen had 21 kills and Alex Opoulos had 18 kills to lead host Newport Harbor (7-5, 6-2) to a 15-9, 9-15, 15-5, 15-12 victory.

Corona del Mar 3, Tustin 1--Derek Slingsby had 19 kills, Doug Hesse had 15 kills and Ryan Steelberg had 31 assists to lead Corona del Mar (7-5, 7-1) to a 15-8, 15-11, 8-15, 15-8 victory.

University 3, Saddleback 0--Dag Reikvam had five aces and 20 assists and David Jurevich had six kills to lead visiting University (10-2, 7-1) to a 15-6, 15-5, 15-6 victory.

In nonleague boys’ swimming:

Orange 110, Anaheim 31--Mike Prahm won the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.13) and the 50 freestyle (22.49) for Orange (13-3) at home. He also was the anchor on the Southern Section-qualifying 400-yard freestyle relay that swam a 3:27.40 for first place.

In nonleague girls’ swimming:

Orange 112, Anaheim 30--Marni Christensen won the 200-yard freestyle (2:17.53) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:12.77) to lead Orange (11-5).

In Sunset League golf:

Huntington Beach 264, Edison 306 (12 holes)--Chris Chittick shot a two-over-par 51 to lead Huntington Beach at SeaCliff Country Club.

In nonleague golf:

Valencia 410, Esperanza 420--Chris Tidland and Jack Drey both shot a seven-over 79 to lead Valencia (16-1) at Alta Vista Country Club.
