ROUNDUP : Lopez, Newbury Park Claim Softball Title

Lea Lopez threw a three-hitter Saturday to lead Newbury Park High to a 4-0 defeat of Thousand Oaks in the championship game of the Thousand Oaks softball tournament.

Lopez, who threw four shutouts in as many tournament games, was selected the most valuable player. Lopez struck out 10 and walked one against Thousand Oaks (20-8).

Lopez outdueled Thousand Oaks ace Alicia Zinner (20-7), who allowed nine hits, including a triple by Lopez. Newbury Park is 20-7.

In other Thousand Oaks tournament games:

Hart 4, Buena 0--Jamie Dean had two hits and freshman Kim Curtis doubled in a run to key a three-run rally in the fourth inning to lead Hart to a third-place finish. Hart’s Kym Weil (22-2) tossed a four-hitter.

Agoura 2, El Camino Real 1--Kim Bunch’s home run in the fourth sparked a two-run rally to lead Agoura (18-5) to a fourth-place finish.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

Notre Dame 9, Alemany 5--Vinnie Orlando, Kevin Milligan, Steve Colella and Louis Tapia banged out two hits each to lead visiting Notre Dame High to a fifth-place finish in the St. Paul tournament.

Highland Hall 27, Highland 5--Jakob Jensen hit for the cycle and Tum Ratanatraiphob went five for six with seven runs batted in to lead Highland Hall (21-2) to a nonleague rout called after five innings by mutual agreement in Lancaster.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

The Master’s 10, UC San Diego 9 (11 innings)--Mark MacArthur led off the bottom of the 11th with his eighth home run, providing the margin of victory in a nonconference game at Master’s.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Cal State Northridge 2-2, U.S. International 0-0 (1st game, eight innings)--Debbie Dickmann and Heather Lindstrom recorded back-to-back shutouts as Northridge (46-19) completed its regular season with a nonconference sweep at USIU.

COLLEGE TRACK

S&W; Modesto Invitational--Cal State Northridge senior Darcy Arreola ran a season-best 4 minutes 15 seconds to win the women’s 1,500 meters at Modesto. The time was Arreola’s second best, just missing the 4:14.15 she ran to win the NCAA Division II title last May.

Melissa Martel, who is redshirting for CSUN, was second in 4:20.02.
