In other Palomar League games:

Mt. Carmel 8, Torrey Pines 1--Matt Miller singled, doubled twice, scored three runs and drove in two for Mt. Carmel (20-4, 10-1). Preston Bynes singled, doubled and homered for Torrey Pines (10-15, 1-10).

Poway 5, Vista 4--Vista (10-14-1, 4-6-1) scored four in the bottom of the sixth and had the tying run at second base with none out, but Danny Miller (10-1) escaped the jam with two of his 12 strikeouts. Ed Thompson, Matt Schwenke, Tom Peterson and Miles Kelly each had two hits and an RBI for Poway (16-6-1, 8-3).

Fallbrook 9, San Dieguito 6--Dan Furleigh hit a three-run homer and Matt Dunlap hit a bases-empty homer to lead Fallbrook (10-11, 5-6). San Dieguito is 2-21-1, 1-9-1.

Avocado League

San Pasqual 6, Escondido 4--Ben Duncan and Dave Goss each went three for three with two RBIs, Chris Hancock went two for four, and Brian Moss went two for two for San Pasqual (10-10-1, 7-2), which moved into a first-place tie with idle Oceanside. Escondido fell to 11-10 and 5-4.

El Camino 2, San Marcos 1--Pitcher J.T. Patton squeezed home catcher Ricky Spears with the winning run in the seventh for visiting El Camino (11-12, 5-5). San Marcos fell to 12-10 and 5-4.

Ramona 10, Carlsbad 8--Sean Kelly hit his sixth homer, with a man on, to break an 8-8 tie. Kelly finished two for four with three RBIs for Ramona (5-17-11, 2-8). Carlsbad is 9-17 and 1-8.

Grossmont 2-A League

Santana 5, El Cajon Valley 1--Gabe Hernandez had two RBIs without getting a hit for Santana (4-1, 18-5). His first came in the fourth inning when the El Cajon Valley shortstop bobbled a grounder, and the second came in the sixth when the shortstop committed a throwing error. Lance McLure hit a two-run homer for Santana.

Valhalla 5, West Hills 1--Rey Neder came back from arm problems to win his first game of the year for Valhalla (13-12-1, 3-3). He threw a six-hitter and struck out 12.

3-A Grossmont League

Helix 5, El Capitan 4--Eric Nicholson improved to 10-0 as Helix (3-2, 14-8) gave first-place El Capitan (5-1, 17-8) its first league loss.
