COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West Wins in Softball

Lisa Kaufman pitched a one-hitter and had a sacrifice fly in Golden West’s 2-0 victory over Long Beach in the first round of the Southern California playoffs Wednesday at Golden West.

Golden West scored both runs in the fourth inning. Dana Cipollone walked with the bases loaded and Kaufman followed with a fly.

Golden West (31-13) plays Orange Coast at 3 p.m. Saturday in the first game of a best-of-three series, which continues Sunday at noon.

Orange Coast 4, San Diego Mesa 0--Kristin Heizer (26-7) pitched a four-hitter for host Orange Coast (32-11). Heizer also had a hit and scored two runs.

OCC scored on a wild pitch in the second, an error in the fourth, an RBI single by Wendy Robinson in the fifth, and an RBI single by Nancy Johnson in the sixth.

Cypress 1, Antelope Valley 0--Sally Dugas pitched a three-hitter to lead host Cypress (38-6). Cypress scored in the third inning by taking advantage of three Antelope Valley (15-20) errors.

With two outs and two on, Kerry Callahan hit a grounder to third that rolled up Cheri Bainbridge’s arm and into left field, allowing Rose Ferrante to score from second.
