San Marcos 10, Carlsbad 5--Brian Calloway hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs for San Marcos (13-11, 6-5). Carlsbad is 10-18, 1-11.
Grossmont 2-A League
Grossmont 10, El Cajon Valley 3--Todd Cady, who broke the section record for RBIs last week, has 57 after adding five more. Cady had two hits and two sacrifice flies. Also for Grossmont (25-2, 8-0), Greg Layson went three for three, scored four runs, stole four bases and drove in a run. El Cajon Valley is 7-16-1, 2-6.
Santana 5, West Hills 3--Mike Romo went three for four and scored twice for Santana (20-6, 6-2). West Hills is 3-22 and 0-8.
Grossmont 3-A League
Helix 10, Mt. Miguel 3--Shawn Ballantyne hit a two-run homer, and Rob Ippolito (4-5) pitched a four-hitter and struck out 10 for Helix (17-8-1, 6-2), which tied for first with El Capitan. The teams will play Friday for the league’s No. 1 seeding in the playoffs. Miguel is 4-22, 1-7.
Granite Hills 7, El Capitan 6--Granite Hills scored twice in the eighth on two walks, a hit batter, a double error and a passed ball.
Palomar League
Rancho Buena Vista 2, Mt. Carmel 1--Stan McCarver (4-1) limited Mt. Carmel (20-6, 10-3) to four hits, and RBV (15-10-1, 10-3) capitalized on five errors despite getting just three hits off Doug Hill (7-2). Steve Valencia’s suicide squeeze in the seventh inning provided the difference, as RBV created a three-way tie for first place.
Poway 9, Fallbrook 2--Phil Portiera hit a two-run homer as Poway (18-6-1, 10-3) scored five in the top of the seventh and moved into a three-way tie for first. Fallbrook is 10-13, 5-8.
San Dieguito 5, Torrey Pines 4--Tony Sanchez’s two-run single in the bottom of the sixth rallied San Dieguito (3-22-1, 2-10-1) from a 4-3 deficit. Torrey Pines is 11-16, 2-11.
Vista 5, Orange Glen 4--Vista (11-15-1, 5-7-1) scored five runs in the second. Orange Glen is 16-11, 7-6.
Coastal League
Julian 5, Mountain Empire 3--Travis Denmark’s two run homer, his 13th, gave first-place Julian (16-5, 9-2) the lead. Denmark pitched a three-hitter and struck out nine. Mountain Empire is 7-4 in league.
Nonleague
Escondido 4, Kearny 1--Robert Chavez went three for four and scored twice for Escondido (14-11).
Badminton
Top-seeded Crawford (15-0) defeated Madison, 13-4, to advance to today’s semifinals of the San Diego Section championships. Crawford will play host to La Jolla (12-3), which defeated Mira Mesa, 9-8.
Hoover, which defeated University City, 11-6, will play host to No. 3 Serra in the other semifinal. Serra defeated San Diego, 10-7.
