Saugus Rallies for 1st-Round Win

Jeff Albert’s three-run home run highlighted a five-run sixth inning Friday as Saugus High overcame a five-run deficit to beat Apple Valley, 8-6, in the first round of the Southern Section 3-A Division baseball playoffs.

Albert’s fifth home run of the season, Chris Hernandez’s run-scoring double and Walter White’s run-scoring single accounted for the scoring in the sixth.

The rally made a winner of Doug Maggiora, who allowed five runs--two of them earned--in the first inning. Maggiora (11-1), a submarining right-hander, yielded 10 hits, struck out five and walked two.
