Newbury Park Wins in Softball Playoffs

Newbury Park High’s Lea Lopez threw a two-hitter and had two hits to lead the visiting Panthers past Santa Maria, 3-0, in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section 5-A Division softball playoffs Thursday.

Newbury Park (24-7) will meet Fountain Valley, a 3-2 winner over Lakewood St. Joseph, in the semifinals. Melody Bolger was two for four for Newbury Park, which extended a 1-0 lead with two runs in the sixth inning.
