Left-hander David Schultz (6-2) will start for Marina (15-12-1) in the first game of the Southern Section 5-A semifinal doubleheader. West Covina (20-6) will meet Diamond Bar (20-8) in the second game at 7 p.m.
Westlake (28-1), ranked second in the nation by USA Today, is led by Mike Edy and Mike Lieberthal. Edy (11-0) will start for Westlake. Lieberthal is batting .500 with 13 home runs, nine doubles and 42 runs batted in.
The winners advance to the title game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Anaheim Stadium. County teams have played in the 5-A title game for five consecutive years. El Dorado won it last year, Esperanza was runner-up in ’88 and ’87 after winning the title in ‘86, and Fountain Valley won in ’85.
