Fullerton’s Short Named Area’s Top Player on Offense
Jim Short, a sophomore first baseman from Fullerton College, was awarded the Southern California Big Stick Award, given to the outstanding offensive player in the area.
Short batted .333 with 13 doubles, a triple, 14 home runs and 62 runs batted in. His home run and RBI totals were Fullerton single-season records.
David Stevens, a freshman relief pitcher from Fullerton College, signed with the Chicago Cubs’ organization, the college said Wednesday.
Stevens, who has a 4.21 earned-run average, led Fullerton with three saves. Stevens will report to the Cubs’ Class A Appalachian League team in Huntington, W.Va., Monday.
Stevens was drafted by the Cubs last June when he was a senior at La Habra High School.
