THE SIDELINES : Orioles Ship Out Horn, Weston
The Baltimore Orioles sent designated hitter Sam Horn and pitcher Mickey Weston to the minor leagues, the team announced.
Weston is going to the team’s Triple A affiliate in Rochester, N.Y., and Horn’s destination has not been decided, team spokesman Rick Vaughn said.
Horn came off the 15-day disabled list Tuesday and had two hits in eight plate appearances over four games since returning.
To fill their roster spots, the Orioles recalled catcher Chris Hoiles from Rochester and purchased the contract of first baseman and designated hitter Greg Walker from Rochester, Vaughn said. Both are to report today.
Hoiles had two hits Sunday night to improve his average to .398 and take over the International League batting lead.
