THE SIDELINES : Baffi Cycles to 2nd Tour Win
Adriano Baffi of Italy sprinted to his second victory in the Tour of Italy today while countryman Gianni Bugno continued as overall leader.
Baffi edged past Mario Cipollini of Italy to win the 18th stage. Diamolidin Abduljaparov of the Soviet Union and Australian cyclist Phil Anderson were also close behind the winner.
Baffi completed the 112.5 miles from Aprica to Gallarate in four hours, 45 minutes, 48 seconds.
Bugno is looking to be the first Italian to win the tour in four years. If he remains in front through the final stage in Milan on June 6, he will be the third cyclist to lead the Tour from start to finish. The last to do so was Belgian Eddy Merckx, in 1973.
