Bob Bass, whose wheeling and dealing brought the San Antonio Spurs 10 new players and a record-setting season, has been named NBA Executive of the Year.

Team officials from throughout the NBA vote on the Executive of the Year award. Bass received 24 votes, followed by Jerry West of the Lakers with 18. John Nash of the Philadelphia 76ers was third with seven votes.

The NBA-sanctioned award comes after a season in which the Spurs captured the Midwest Division title, set a league record for the best single-season improvement and a franchise record for most victories.
