A suspect wanted in connection with the June 5 stabbing death of a San Diego woman surrendered to sheriff’s deputies Monday, authorities said.

Franklin Charles Scott, 49, an auto mechanic, was taken into custody without incident and booked into County Jail in Vista on a murder charge, said Sgt. Harry A. Smith, spokesman for the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

Smith said homicide agents were told by an acquaintance of Scott’s to show up at an undisclosed address in Vista on Monday afternoon. Scott arrived a short time later.

Scott had been wanted in the death of his girlfriend, Melissa Marian George, 32, of Clairemont. George pulled into a Union 76 station in Escondido bleeding from multiple stab wounds, Smith said. A witness saw a man leave the van on foot. The case is to go before the district attorney in Vista this morning.
