$4-Million Nordhoff Bridge, Link Open
A $4-million connector road designed to ease congestion on Nordhoff Street in Northridge was opened to traffic Tuesday, city officials said.
The nearly half-mile long connector, which includes a bridge over Southern Pacific railroad tracks and Limekiln Creek, closes a gap in Nordhoff between Tampa and Corbin avenues.
The city has wanted to link Nordhoff into a continuous thoroughfare since 1972, but the project was not funded until 1986, when the owners of the Northridge Fashion Center agreed to pay $1.5 million of the cost in return for city permission to expand the mall.
City officials expect the extention to carry 35,000 vehicles a day.
