The city of Inglewood has purchased 500 tickets for anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela’s appearance at the Coliseum next week. Los Angeles, Bakersfield, San Diego and Pomona also are planning to buy large groups of tickets, organizers said Thursday.
About 20,000 of the 90,000 tickets for the event have been sold, organizers for the Mandela Reception Committee said.
In Inglewood, the city will resell the tickets to residents for $10 apiece--the standard price--and bus residents to the event. Free “Inglewood for Mandela” T-shirts also will be distributed.
“We want to demonstrate our support for the cause of ending apartheid,” Inglewood City Councilman Daniel Tabor said.
