Quarterback Charles Levy of Lynwood High School was named the outstanding player of last Saturday night’s 605 All-Star Football Game at Cerritos College.

Levy, who is going to the University of Arizona, scored one touchdown, passed for a TD and threw a two-point conversion pass to lead the West to a 14-10 victory before a crowd of about 10,000.

With his team trailing, 10-6, Levy ran 26 yards for a touchdown with 7:49 to play and then threw to Omar Khattab of Downey for the conversion. Khattab had earlier caught a 19-yard scoring pass from Levy on a fake field goal.

Rio Hondo Coach Named

Alex Henderson, an assistant coach at Rancho Santiago Community College in Santa Ana the last five years, has been named football coach at Rio Hondo College near Whittier.

He succeeds Clint South, who resigned after four seasons with a 17-22-1 record. The Roadrunners were 5-4-1 last season.

“I have always wanted to work full-time at the junior college level,” said Henderson, 38, of Huntington Beach.

“There is a good combination of the high school atmosphere and the four-year school situation. There is security in terms that there isn’t that cutthroat mentality (found) at four-year schools.”
