Center Mario Lemieux of the Pittsburgh Penguins will undergo back surgery Wednesday.
Surgeons will remove part of a herniated disk. Team physician Charles Burke said the recovery period should last 6-12 weeks and that there is a 90% chance Lemieux will be able to play by opening night.
