Gaston Is Upset by Taylor in 7th
Quincy Taylor of Dallas knocked out previously unbeaten Mario Gaston of Argentina in the seventh round of their super-welterweight bout Monday night at the Forum.
Taylor sent Gaston to the canvas with a sharp left in the opening seconds of the seventh round. After the Argentine regained his feet, Taylor knocked him down again with a barrage of punches.
Referee Chuck Hassett stopped the fight 45 seconds into the round.
Taylor, rated the World Boxing Council’s No. 16 super-welterweight challenger, improved to 14-1 with 11 knockouts. Gaston, rated No. 11 by the WBC, is 23-1 with 13 knockouts.
