Eliot Teltscher, playing his first tournament in two years, won, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, over Jeff Tarango in the opening round of the Sovran Bank Tennis Classic at Washington, D.C.
In other first-round matches, Ramesh Krishnan of India scored a 6-3, 6-1 victory over New Zealander Kelly Evernden; Dan Goldie breezed to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over West German Patrick Kuhnen, and Mark Woodforde of Australia outlasted Paul Annacone, 6-7 (10-8), 6-3, 6-2.
