Norman Plummer Memorial Services Planned

Memorial services will be held in August for Norman James Plummer, a renowned Irvine senior citizen, organist and choir director, who died of septicemia at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana on July 17. He was 82.

Plummer, who was born in Bristol, England, served as an organist for churches in England and Los Angeles and Orange counties for more than 50 years. One of his musical highlights was playing for Masonic Easter services at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles in 1959 and 1961.

In 1976, he was honored by University United Methodist Church for 50 years of dedicated service as organist and choir director in England and in the United States. He was named an honorary steward of the church in 1983.

Plummer was retired vice president of Joseph Lucas Ltd. and its U.S. subsidiary, Lucas Industries. Inc.

He also served several terms as president and chairman of the board of the British American Chamber of Commerce. In 1966, he was recognized by Queen Elizabeth for his betterment of British-American relationships with the Officer of the Order of the British Empire.

Plummer, who moved to Orange County in 1967, was a leader in the Irvine Senior Citizens Center and served three terms as president of the Irvine chapter of the American Assn. of Retired Persons.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; daughters, Beryl Crandall of Northridge and Dr. Marrilyn Stein of Sacramento, and six grandchildren.

Services will be held Aug. 18 at 4 p.m. at University United Methodist Church, 18422 Culver Drive, Irvine. Burial will be at sea off Newport Bay.
