Lamar (Marty) Wilson, a former Pepperdine basketball player, was named assistant basketball coach at the university.
Wilson replaced Bob Hawking, who left last month to take an assistant coaching position at UC Davis.
Wilson was a backup point guard in the 1984-85 and 1985-86 seasons before sitting out the 1986-87 campaign with a back injury. He started 17 games the next year before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He rebounded to guide the Waves to a 20-13 record and a first-round NIT victory in the 1988-89 season.
He ranks fifth on the school’s all-time career assist list with 342.
Last season, Wilson was an assistant coach at Simi Valley High.
