Tom Kite came from seven shots off the pace with a record-tying nine-under-par 62 Saturday and grabbed a share of the lead with John Cook after 54 holes of the $1-million St. Jude Classic at Memphis, Tenn.

Larry Silveira, who entered the third round with a one-stroke lead, shot a four-over 75, leaving him six shots out of the lead.

David Canipe is in third place at 203. Mark Brooks, Jay Don Blake and Tim Simpson are two shots back at 204.

Bob Charles shot a two-under-par 70 to retain a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the Senior Tour event at Charlotte, N.C.

Charles finished with a two-day total of 136, leading Bruce Crampton, Joe Jimenez and Tom Shaw by one. Defending champion Dave Hill had a 68 and is two strokes behind Charles.

Shaw recorded the round’s most spectacular charge, as his seven-under 65 tied the course record set by Rocky Thompson in Thursday’s pro-am. Shaw rolled in a 20-foot birdie putt on the 18th to cap the round.

Barb Mucha, seeking her first LPGA victory, birdied the 485-yard, 18th hole to take a one-stroke lead after three rounds of the Boston Five Classic at Danvers, Mass.

Her total of eight-under-par 208 led Laura Baugh by one stroke and first-round leader Ok-Hee Ku by two. Pat Bradley, the tour’s leading career money-winner, defending champion Amy Alcott and Nancy Brown were three strokes back at 211.

Baugh, a non-winner in 17 years on the tour, has missed the cut in four of the other nine tournaments she played this year. She took time off to have a baby, Haley, who turned 13 weeks Saturday.

“I’ve come in second all different ways,” Baugh said. “So now I’ve just decided I’m going to finish second every week. The heck with winning. If I win, fine. If I don’t, second’s fine, too.”

Marie-Laure de Lorenzi overcame soreness in her left wrist to shoot a one-under-par 72 and take a one-shot lead after three rounds of the British Women’s Open at Woburn, England.

De Lorenzi had a three-day total of five-under 214, one ahead of Kitrina Douglas of Britain and Helen Alfredsson of Sweden.
